Amy Winehouse’s many addictions have held all headlines for so long that it’s somewhat hard to believe they are not rooted deep, but are rather prompted by something as casual as being bored. Yet, this is precisely what the singer’s mother is telling the media, stressing that all that Amy needs right now is friends to keep her occupied.

In a brand new interview with Closer magazine, Janis Winehouse insists the singer’s troubles have nothing to do with her tormented love life and even her stalling career, but rather with the fact that, once she moved to St. Lucia, Amy became instantly bored. St. Lucia was, as fans must remember, a destination the singer specifically chose to be apart from the London party scene and the many bad influences there, so that she could kick her drug habit – which she did, but only to replace drugs with alcohol, as reports would have it.

Janis insists for the mag boredom was the only factor that drove Amy to seek refuge and consolation in alcohol. “Two of her closest friends are going over to try to calm her down a bit. I think it will make a big difference because in the past few weeks she’s been bored. Amy knows her drinking ruined the performance. Of course her band is frustrated, but even they can’t stop her.” the singer’s mother says, speaking in direct reference to the terrible live performance she put at the St. Lucia Jazz Music Festival, where fans literally booed her off stage because she was hardly able to stand, let alone sing.

However, given that Amy was (again) hospitalized recently – officially for “dehydration,” but reportedly for her alcohol abuse – Janis’ statements seem to downplay a situation that needs no more covering up, several British e-zines are saying. In doing so, Winehouse’s mother seems to take the same approach as her father did a couple of days ago, when he basically told the media that he was done with his daughter and would continue to be so until she found the will to kick off her addictions altogether.

“I’m worried when I get a phone call form her or her security, because I don’t know what bad news I may get. But when I don’t hear from her, I’m worried as well. There is nothing I can do until Amy wants to fight her addiction.” Mitch Winehouse was telling the media a short while back, vouching to back off his daughter until she realized and agreed she needed professional help.
