Borderlands: The Pre-sequel, a game in the Borderlands series, has been released for Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X. It should be available for everyone, but it's not.

Borderlands: The Pre-sequel is one of the first triple-A games on the Linux platform that get a simultaneous launch on all of the available platforms. Usually, Linux players waited until the game was ported, eventually, but 2K is taking the open source platform seriously.

The publisher of this game, 2K, is not kidding around with Linux releases. First they released Borderlands 2 when everyone was least expecting it, and now they surprise us with a simultaneous launch. This tells us a couple of things. First of all, 2K Games has a lot of confidence that Linux will succeed. They would not invest money in a project that doesn't make them money. Secondly, the guys from Aspyr Media have been working for quite some time on this project, so it's likely that the decision to release it on Linux was made a long time ago.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is a crazy FPS extravaganza

The studio that makes the Borderlands series, Gearbox, is building games that are getting crazier with each new version. Borderlands was something new and fun, Borderlands 2 was over the top, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel now promises to deliver even more content and insane missions.

The same gameplay has been kept from the other two titles. Players will be able to choose from four classes, Wilhelm the Enforcer, Nisha the Lawbringer, Athena the Gladiator, and Claptrap.

"Discover the story behind Borderlands 2 villain, Handsome Jack, and his rise to power. Taking place between the original Borderlands and Borderlands 2, the Pre-Sequel gives you a whole lotta new gameplay featuring the genre blending fusion of shooter and RPG mechanics that players have come to love."

"Float through the air with each low gravity jump while taking enemies down from above using new ice and laser weapons. Catch-a-ride and explore the lunar landscape with new vehicles allowing for more levels of destructive mayhem," reads the Steam synopsis.

What are the system requirements for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel?

Triple-A titles usually have big system requirements, and the same is true for this game, although they are not as big as you might think: SteamOS or Ubuntu 14.04, Intel Core 2 Quad or AMD Phenom II X4, 4 GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 260, and 13 GB of available space.

We mentioned right at the start of article that it should be available for everyone. The problem is that it's being launched at different dates for US and the rest of the world. So, who is not in US right now will have to wait until Thursday to play it.
