Gearbox Software, 2K Games, and 2K Australia have talked a bit more about Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, the upcoming project from all three companies, and how in terms of content it's about the same as Borderlands 1, although smaller than Borderlands 2.

Borderlands 1 and 2 impressed tens of millions of gamers worldwide with their great mix of role-playing and dungeon crawling mechanics, all set in a first-person shooter experience.

Since the release of Borderlands 2, original developer Gearbox has launched a huge amount of downloadable content with new storylines, locations, guns, and more.

Now, it's handed the reins to 2K Australia, which is working on Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, a new game set between Borderlands 1 and 2 chronologically.

After sharing plenty of details about it, Gearbox President Randy Pitchford has revealed to PC Gamer just how the initial ideas surrounding the game appeared.

"At some point we said let's set it between the two games. I think early on we were like: 'We've got to go to the moon.' I think that was one of the first tentpoles. Everybody was going to expect the whole sequel thing, but we really wanted to dig into the whole Jack character. And we killed him," he said.

"So that sucks to come afterwards if we want to spend more time with Jack. So okay, how did Jack get into power? I think it evolved from people sitting around the table, brainstorming, iterating, throwing treatments into the hat."

What's more, Pitchford has talked a bit about the size of the whole Pre-Sequel experience and he's confident it will be about the same as Borderlands 1, although smaller than the second title, and it might even have a smaller price tag.

"It’s pretty big. I don’t think it’s going to be as big as Borderlands 2. It might be as big, or a little bigger, than Borderlands 1. It might be kind of in between the two.

"As far as price point goes, I don’t think that’s set in stone yet. It should be priced correctly, so we’ll have to see what happens in the market and understand the actual total value proposition that’s being offered. But I’m the developer. The guys at 2K will figure that out."

As of yet, however, not much is known about a release date, a price, or even the whole content that's stuffed into the Pre-Sequel for Borderlands, meaning we'll learn more in the following months.
