The latest installment in The Making of Borderlands series of documentary videos is out, offering more information on the upcoming first-person shooter and talking a bit about the franchise's future.

The Making of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is a behind-the-scenes documentary detailing the inspiration and all the hard work behind the game.

The latest episode, the fourth in the series, titled Weapons and Beyond, explores the origins and features of the rich weapon system in Borderlands and Borderlands 2, as well as the additions coming in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.

If there's one thing the Borderlands series is known for, apart from a great sense of humor and a ton of wacky antics, it's the massive loot system, with hundreds upon hundreds of possible weapons for players to mix and match during their adventure.

Matt Armstrong, Borderlands franchise director at Gearbox Software, reveals that the first installment in the series had a huge number of weapons for players to collect and play with.

When Borderlands 2 showed up to the party, the developers decided to give the system more structure and at the same time keep things fresh and exciting. The developer diversified the available arsenal on another level, making the manufacturers more distinct.

A lot of new and exciting additions

The upcoming Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will further expand on the hard work already put in by Gearbox, with the addition of lasers and ice elemental damage, giving players the chance to freeze their enemies and shatter them with one blow.

The video showcases many of the ways gamers will be able to enjoy the new arsenals, and shows the four different types of lasers they will get their hands on next week. From ones with continuous rays to blasters, high-damage and low-fire rate ones that work like rail guns, and weapons that shoot multiple bursts, they will all add to the already insane range of implements of destruction that your enemies will get to taste firsthand.

In addition to the many weapons, the unique setting, Pandora's Moon, Elpis, introduces another twist to the gameplay formula, in the form of low gravitational forces and no atmosphere. Thus, you will be able to send your enemies flying into outer space, and your oxygen tanks will also function as jetpacks, helping you navigate your surroundings with ease.

The storyline is set between the events of Borderlands and Borderlands 2, and follows the rise to power of Handsome Jack, the tyrant that veterans of the series are all too familiar with.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is coming out on October 14 in North America and October 17 in Europe, headed to the Windows PC, Linux, Mac OS X, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.
