The Borderlands franchise developed by Gearbox Software and 2K Games will see the release of a special animated short film as the two companies have partnered with the Academy of Art University in San Francisco for a contest aimed at students that rewards their ideas with internships inside 2K.

Borderlands 1 and 2 delivered top-notch experiences and the second game in particular did a lot to flesh out the universe envisioned by Gearbox.

Now, publisher 2K has confirmed that it's teamed up with the Academy of Art University in San Francisco for a contest among its students, as teams of them are tasked to come up with short stories that take place within the Borderlands universe.

A jury will decide the best idea, according to IGN, which is going to be turned into an animated short film that will be part of the official Borderlands 2 universe.

What's more, the winning students can apply for an internship inside 2K and Gearbox Software.
