Borderlands 2 might soon receive the option of starting a third actual playthrough, as one owner of the game on the Xbox 360 console managed to unlock a new entry in the special start dialog of the game and even start the actual playthrough.

Borderlands 2 has a mechanic that, when completing the game for the first time, allows players to start the campaign once more in a second playthrough called True Vault Hunter mode.

Once players complete it and finish the last story mission, the game goes into a new mode dubbed by fans Playthrough 2.5, where each enemy is scaled up to the maximum of level 50.

Now, a Borderlands 2 Xbox 360 owner on Reddit has posted a screenshot showing a new entry in the Playthrough selection screen, showing a reference to Playthrough 3.

He was able to start the game using this setting but found that, while enemies were around level 33, they were invincible as weapons didn't do any damage.

As of yet, it's unclear what this new reference means, but it could hint at the release of a new mode, alongside the sixth playable character and the long-awaited increase for the level cap.
