The next add-ons won't be full-fledged expansions for the game

Owners of Borderlands 2, the role-playing first-person shooter from Gearbox Software, shouldn't have high hopes concerning the next round of add-ons for the game, as the studio can't deliver the same amount of content as it did with expansions like Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep.

This is largely because its teams are focusing on other projects.

Borderlands 2 has been out for almost a year and, since its launch back in September 2012, the game has received lots of different add-ons, from story-based expansions to new characters, many of which included in the Season Pass bundle.

Now, with the release of the recent Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack #2 DLC, Gearbox has started launching content that's not included in the first season of add-ons, and fans shouldn't expect the expansions to have the same scope.

"If you think about what’s in the Season Pass, it is an incredible amount of stuff," Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford told DigitalTrends.

"There’s four campaign DLCs, that was the promise from the beginning. You get them for the price of three."

"Then later we added the level cap increase and some other features. We just threw it in that bundle because a lot more people bought it than we expected, so we could afford to put more value into it. If you think about all of that, the sum of all that content is larger than the game itself."

These big expansions are a thing of the past, as the next add-ons for Borderlands 2 will be smaller in scope and just deliver standalone adventures, quests, or battles.

"We’ve got more content to come, but if you get it in your mind that you’re expecting the same amount that was in the Season Pass, I’m afraid we’re going to disappoint you," he added.

"Because the content that’s to come is not of that same scale. It’s not going to be priced at the same scale, so the value will be great, but it’s not at that same scale."

The next add-on for Borderlands 2 is TK Baha's Bloody Harvest, which will reintroduce a character from the first Borderlands game.
