The story in Borderlands 2 will be delivered through a variety of ways, according to the game’s Producer, Matt Charles, who also mentions that, while the game will have a maximum of level 50, future updates can take it up to new limits.
Borderlands 2 is set to deliver a pretty impressive experience this September by adding new classes and elements to the game, while overhauling the ones from the first title.
We’ve already heard plenty of things about Borderlands 2, including
its two special editions that will be made available alongside the regular version of the game.
Now, Producer Matt Charles has revealed that the story in the game would be delivered to players through different ways, from cutscenes to in-game moments, as well as through audio logs and the actual environment.
“[In terms of story] we’re mixing it up a bit this time: few short cutscenes (and title cards) where necessary, lots of in-game moments, ECHO logs, missions, and environmental storytelling – not to mention the significant NPC improvements we made so it doesn’t just feel like a cardboard cut out of a dude is sending you on a quest,” he said.
The goal was to deliver a great experience for all types of players, according to Charles, who emphasizes that they can do whatever they want.
“What’s great is that we catered it towards both audiences that love story telling through NPCs and those who prefer to [just play]! If you choose to do the latter, you can run off as the NPC is talking to you and the discussion will appear as an ECHO transmission. No chains attached!”
In terms of balancing and the level cap, Borderlands 2 will have a maximum level of 50, but Charles quickly admits that this might change once expansions are released, just like it did with the original Borderlands.
“We’re balancing the game to cap at level 50; in the first game we ended up pushing the cap to 69 through post-launch patches and DLC. I don’t have DLC plans for Borderlands 2 yet but we tend to want to one-up ourselves each time, so… we’ll see what happens!”
Borderlands 2 is out at the end of September for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
