The handheld version of Gearbox Software's highly acclaimed first-person shooter Borderlands 2 is making its debut in Europe on May 28, it has been revealed today.

The news came from the official PlayStation Europe Twitter account, revealing that the PlayStation Vita version of Borderlands 2 will arrive a little later in Europe than it will in North America, where it is scheduled to launch tomorrow, on May 13.

The game was made by Divekick creators Iron Galaxy Studios, who have also taken over future development of the Xbox One exclusive fighting game Killer Instinct, Double Helix's remake of the classic SNES brawler.

Borderlands 2 will arrive in North America in a bundle with the redesigned, slim version of the PlayStation Vita handheld console from Sony, sometime later this spring, according to Sony's Vice President of Marketing John Koller.

He also stated that the PS Vita version of Borderlands 2 will come with cross-save functionality, supporting saved games from the PS3 build, and will also include six of the downloadable content packs that Gearbox has released for the game.

Borderlands 2 was originally launched back in September 2012 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Windows PC, and Mac platforms, and it has since amassed quite the cult following, with its unique melange of crazy weaponry, over-the-top action, and humor.
