Windows 8.1, a major upgrade for Windows 8, is expected to pack a large number of improvements for Microsoft’s flagship operating system, including a new version of the Start button that could allow users to instantly access the Start Screen.

Rumor has it that Microsoft is also preparing an option that would allow users to bypass the Start Screen and boot directly to desktop, even though no evidence of such a setting was found in the leaked builds.

A report by The Verge reveals that the tech giant is planning to introduce such a feature in a future Windows 8 upgrade, so the new option might not arrive in Windows 8.1, but at a later date.

Of course, no official word is available for the time being but, given the fact that so many insiders are already talking about it, Microsoft is at least considering rolling out such an option.
