It would be a very handy tool to have on the default image

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) is scheduled for an April release and a proposition has been made to integrate the useful Boot Repair tool by default.

If you happen to install Windows after you have already installed Ubuntu, you will need the Boot Repair tool to fix the boot loader. Normally, you would need an Ubuntu live image and the use of a PPA, but this could be done a lot easier if the tool was already on the ISO.

“The LTS iso is going to be used by a lot of new users for the next 2 years. Having this tool in the iso itself will improve the user experience because a very large number of "I tried to install ubuntu, but something went wrong and it took me a week of struggling at the command line to fix it" problems will be avoided. Having repair and reinstallation on the same image will also present a more intuitive and consistent interface,” said user staticd on the official mailing list.

Ubuntu developers have yet to respond to the proposition, but it would be a great idea to have Boot Repair readily available.
