A new Android-based mobile phone is set to arrive on shelves at Boost Mobile in the next few weeks, namely the Samsung Transform Ultra, a side-sliding device that was just announced for the wireless carrier.

The new Samsung Transform Ultra smartphone will be added to the carrier's offering on October 7th with a price tag of $229.99 (excluding taxes) attached to it.

The phone will join the Samsung Galaxy Prevail, another Android-based smartphone at Boost Mobile, one that managed to become one of the best selling non-contract devices in the US in only four months of availability.

The Samsung Transform Ultra will be released via the wireless carrier's exclusive retail stores, as well as through independent wireless dealer locations in the United States.

The new mobile phone is expected to prove a great option for all users, courtesy of its touchscreen display, complemented by a text-friendly full QWERTY keypad.

“If you have been sitting on the sidelines considering no-contract plans or Android smartphones, it's time to upgrade with the latest Samsung Android devices paired with the award-winning Boost Mobile plans and customer experience,” said Andre Smith, vice president of Boost Mobile.

“The Transform Ultra device includes the innovative Mobile ID platform, allowing customers to get a running start in exploring Android applications and widgets based on their personal interest.”

Running under Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the new mobile phone packs a fast 1GHz application processor inside, along with a 3-megapixel photo snapper on the back, and a camera on the front to enable video calling.

Samsung Transform Ultra comes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as with built-in GPS receiver and with a microSD memory card slot so that users could easily expand the available storage.

The mobile phone also features support for a wide range of Google Mobile services, as well as for various applications available for download via the Android Market. It is also the first device at Boost Mobile to offer support for 'ID packs' from the carrier.

“The Transform Ultra is Boost's first Android-powered smartphone to come preloaded with Mobile ID, an exclusive service from Boost that allows customers to download and install 'ID packs',” Boost Mobile announced.

“The packs deliver a complete mobile experience, including applications, widgets, ringtones and wallpapers, in a couple simple clicks. ID packs are designed to meet a customer's individual lifestyle or interests, such as sports, entertainment, fitness and music.”
