A new mobile phone has just landed on the market in Australia, the Huawei U8300, a cheap pre-paid Android smartphone, which is now available for purchase in the country via Australian telco Boost Mobile.

The handset comes with Google's Android 2.1 operating system on board, and sports a small 2.6-inch LCD touchscreen display that boasts a 240 x 320-pixel resolution.

Although it comes with appealing features, the handset still sports a very low price tag, mainly due to the fact that its screen is not only small, but also resistive, which means that one would have to press harder on it than on capacitive-touchscreen phones.

Those Australian users interested in the new device would find it available for $149 on a pre-pay basis, which means that it is the cheapest Android-based smartphone on the market in Australia.

The retail box of the new device also includes a 1GB MicroSD card and a reader, along with a 930mAh Lithium-ion battery that fits the need of this device.

The specifications list for the new Huawei U8300 also includes WiFi 802.11b/g and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity options, as well as MicroUSB (High Speed USB).

Moreover, it comes with support for UMTS 2100/900, as well as for EDGE 850/900/1800/1900, HSDPA 7.2Mbps, not to mention that it includes A-GPS, Digital compass and FM radio.

Other specs of the new device include the Micro SD card slot with support for up to 16GB of additional storage space, a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper with LED flash and digital zoom, all packed inside a device that measures 94 x 64 x 11mm and weighs in at 100 gr.

All in all, the new mobile phone does seem to come with all the features than one would expect to find in a low-end device.

Not to mention that it also offers access to the Android Market, where users would find a number of more than 80,000 applications available for download.

Additional info on the new device, as well as on the offering that Boost Mobile put in place for it can be found on the company's website.
