French company Bookeen has just pulled out of the box its latest 8-inch eReader, called Cybook Ocean. Featuring an angular design and a matte black and glossy front, the device might manage to capture the interest of Kindle fans.

The Cybook Ocean features an 8-inch screen with a 1024 x 768 pixels and 4GB of storage onboard. That’s the same the newly released Nook GlowLight eReader is offering and translates into being able to store up to 2,000 eBooks.

Power comes from a 1GHz processor coupled with 512MB of RAM, and the device is Wi-Fi ready. Last but not least, it runs Bookeen’s own Linux-based operating system.

The Bookeen packs a front-lit display and offers a screen clarity comparable to the Kindle Paperwhite 2. Digital readers can turn pages using the touch-enabled display or just by using the physical button located at the bottom.

Customers purchasing the Cybook Ocean eReader can get additional content from the Bookeen eBook Store. The reading device will become available starting next month for a price of about €160 / $218.
