Kanzi the bonobo has managed to amaze everyone and has proved to be a self-sufficient animal, as he was filmed lighting a fire and even cooking some marshmallows for himself.

The 34-year-old bonobo chimpanzee knows how to take care of himself better than many modern men, as the animal prepares his own food and really enjoys doing it.

According to a 2011 report, the incredibly smart chimpanzee is one of the eight bonobos under the care of Dr. Sue Savage-Rumbaugh of the Great Ape Trust in Des Moines, Iowa. Apparently, scientists taught him to use matches and do all the other impressive skills he shows in the video embedded below.

Kanzi is seen collecting wood, breaking it in small pieces and forming a pile just perfect for a camp fire. Then, he carefully strikes a match to light the fire and meticulously cooks his meal on the open fire – a marshmallow stuck on the end of a twig.

Besides the fire-lightening abilities, Kanzi also communicates with humans, as he was encouraged to interact with them and copy them. He reportedly uses touchpads full of icon-like symbols to express what he wants to convey.

The Huffington Post tells us that the clip is part of an episode of the BBC show “Monkey Planet,” which focuses on the world of primates and was aired earlier this month.
