The U2 frontman, Bono, and his wife Ali Hewson are joining forces to fight the poverty that reigns in the African village of Butha-Buthe in Lesotho, South Africa. And, as most celebrities who do charity work, Bono also thought of going into designing clothes.
The singer and his soul mate worked in collaboration with the designer Ronan Gregory and the upscale exclusive store Nordstrom to design and sell the One T-shirts for the peppered price of $40. The clothing items are made of 'pure African cotton from Lesotho' and are produced by Edun, a company that Bono and Ali started up in Africa.
Each $10 from the total of 40 will go to the poor families in Lesotho who offered to help make the said T-shirts. The rest of the money will go to special programs, aimed at providing proper AIDS medication and medical care, but also education and other special programs.
In a recent interview, the rocker, very well known for his work in the charity field, said that he hoped he could raise up to 5 million signatures of people who make a pledge to the anti-poverty cause by the next presidential election.
