Time and time again, the multi-million production of the latest two Bond movies have had more than a fair share of issues to deal with. First, there was the dumping of Pierce Brosnan as the slick 007 and the hiring of Daniel Craig. Then, the fire that burned the Bond set to ashes.
And, now, the director announced for the 22nd movie just bailed out on the project. More than two months to go until the 'Casino Royal' premiere, the producers are already facing problems with the 'Bond 22' sequel, set for release in May 2008.
Basically, over confident in the success Craig will have in cinemas, the bosses from Columbia Pictures signed him on for the sequel, too, and rushed to tell the media that it will hit theaters in May 2008. They also said that Roger Mitchell ('Changing Lanes' and 'Notting Hill') will be in charge of the direction.
But negotiations were put to a full stop mid-way due to 'artistic differences', as it is always the case and Mitchell walked out on the project, leaving the producers to wonder who will be the man good enough (and skilled enough) to direct it. A spokesperson from Columbia made the announcement today, claiming that, although pressed by time (!) they will make the May 2008 deadline with 'Bond 22'.
No replacement for Mitchell has been suggested yet. 'Casino Royale' will run in cinemas from November 17th.
