The very first collaborative remote support representative console designed for the iPad will be launching this summer, Bomgar has confidently announced. When it ships, the Bomgar iPad Rep Console will allow IT support technicians to access, view and fix a computer or mobile device remotedly, using an iPad or iPad 2.

Whether or not competitors will try to beat Bomgar's self imposed deadline, the company claims it will be the first to enable technicians to offer their support at the right time, no matter where they are.

The Bomgar iPad Rep Console will allow support technicians to work on multiple remote support sessions at once.

The solution will offer the ability to invite other in-house and external support reps to collaborate on the same session simultaneously.

Customers, for their part, will not need to have pre-installed software on their device, or be part of a pre-defined “buddy list” to receive support, according to Bomgar.

The company does not specify under what form their Collaborative Remote Support Console will arrive on the iPad.

However, a few screenshots posted on the company’s website clearly show that IT technicians will be dealing with a state-of-the-art native iOS application.

Bomgar says that both the original iPad, and the iPad 2 will be supported.

It will also be the only iPad remote support solution that doesn’t pass session information through a third-party server, Bomgar says. Sensitive data will be kept safe behind a firewall.

“Just like the customers and employees they’re helping, IT support technicians are becoming increasingly mobile, and they need the ability to provide around the clock support even when off-site,” said Nathan McNeill, co-founder and VP of product strategy at Bomgar.

“Right now, many of these technicians are downloading consumer-focused remote access apps to perform support, but these products have limited functionality and can be huge security risks,” McNeill explains.

Stressing that enterprises work under strict compliance regulations, McNeill adds that “With the Bomgar iPad Rep Console, we’re giving support technicians the flexibility and mobility they need, plus the security assurances their companies require.”
