Owners of a BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone in China can now download and install the official OS 7.1.0.437 update for their devices, as long as they use it on China Unicom’s network.

The new software was made available through RIM’s official support website as package version 7.1.0.1461, and it includes software platform 5.1.0.345. The update weighs 248.48MB.

Although the upgrade is delivered through the official channels, CrackBerry notes that users should be cautious when planning to install it. Backing up the device before kicking off the process is always a good idea.

Apparently, RIM has left some features out of the box with this update when compared to other OS releases. However, the handset vendor did include some fixes and other enhancements in the new software.

China Unicom users who own a Bold 9900 handset and would like to upgrade it should head over to RIM’s support website to grab the new software.
