14 DAY TRIAL // Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion has been long rumored to plan the release of a sequel for its Blackberry Bold 9700 smartphone, namely the Bold 9780, and the new handset has just made another live appearance, this time on the website of wireless carrier Vodafone in the Netherlands.
Following a long series of suppositions regarding the release of this Bold 2 successor, complemented by video previews and even a recent video review of the smartphone, 9780's appearance at Vodafone shows clearly that the actual launch should follow shortly.
We've already had the chance to take a look at the phone itself, as well as at some of the specifications that it would arrive on shelves with, and Vodafone's website, which has the phone listed with a “Coming Soon” tag on it, unveils even more on the matter.
As Bold 9700's successor, the new mobile phone would pack a similar outer design, with the main changes being spotted under the hood.
A 2,44” High Res TFT LCD, 65K colors display should hide behind it 512MB of RAM, support for 3G connectivity, built-in GPS receiver, and more.
Moreover, the new device, which runs under the BlackBerry 6 OS, should come with a 5.0 megapixel photo snapper on the back, as well as with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR connectivity options.
Basically, the new Blackberry Bold model is expected to play along much better with the new BlackBerry 6 OS than its older brother, the Bold 9700, was able too.
However, we did have the chance to take a look at Bold 9700 running Blackberry 6 OS, and things were looking pretty good, one should agree.
As GSM Arena notes in a recent article, one other thing that Vodafone unveiled through putting the Bold 9780 on its website is a contract free price tag, which has been set at 509 euro, it seems.
For the time being, nothing has been officially announced on Bold 9780's landing on shelves, but it might not be too long before RIM decides to make this move, so keep an eye on this space for more info on the matter.
