BlackBerry Bold 9700, one of the most popular smartphones released on the market last year, has been recently caught on video running under the new BlackBerry 6 OS, proving the older devices can still benefit from the novelties RIM packed in the OS.

Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion announced in the beginning of August the launch of a new mobile operating system, the BlackBerry 6, while unveiling the fact that last year's Blackberry Bold 9700 would be among the handsets to taste this solution.

However, while we've got the official confirmation that the BlackBerry Bold 9700 would receive an OS update, no specific info on when that might happen emerged until now.

All in all, it seems that the Bold 2 devices out there should start receiving an OS update before the end of the ongoing year, providing that RIM and wireless carriers around the world are gearing up for the delivery of this solution.

Until specific info on this emerges, we should take a look at the video below, which offers a nice range of details on how the BlackBerry Bold 9700 should get along with the new OS flavor.

According to some of the latest reports, the BlackBerry 6 OS runs faster on the Bold 9700 than it manages to do on the new BlackBerry Torch, which is somehow disappointing.

It seems that this device, supposedly better than the Bold 9700, shows some lag when it comes to the transition between homescreen tabs, BlackBerry Cool notes in a recent article.

Among the things that users would see in the video below, we can count the Bold 9700 running the new Webkit browser from RIM, which is used on the older device without the pinch to zoom functionality.

The BlackBerry Torch was released in early August with sliding design, new to the BlackBerry family, while packing both a touchscreen display and a QWERTY keyboard.
