The Philippines has recently become the latest market in which Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion released its BlackBerry Internet Service. According to the company, the service is now available for users in the country on the airwaves of Sun Cellular, and it accompanied by the release of two handsets, namely the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphones.

Sun Cellular’s postpaid BlackBerry service plans come with a wide range of benefits for customers, the handset vendor announced. Among them, we can count the possibility to stay connected with friends and family at all times via push email or instant messaging applications such as BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) and Yahoo Messenger. Moreover, users are also offered the possibility to stay in touch with contacts on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, all straight from their BlackBerry device.

Internet access is available across the country on Sun’s nationwide GPRS/EDGE and expanding 3G nationwide coverage. “We are very excited to offer BlackBerry Internet Service in the market,” said Ricky G. Peña, Vice-President for Postpaid and New Business Marketing. “This is what our customers have asked for and we are very pleased to introduce the BlackBerry solution to our customers.”

Sun Cellular's existing postpaid subscribers can benefit from add-on service plans for BlackBerry smartphones, and the offering is available for new customers too, the wireless carrier announced. The operator's add-on plans for BlackBerry Internet Service include unlimited options, along with other offerings.
