Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion is already known to be working on the development of sequels for two of its highly popular BlackBerry devices, namely the BlackBerry Storm 2 and Bold 2, and, although the company hasn't announced anything official yet, rumors point towards a very close release date for the two handsets.

According to a recent article on Engadget, the BlackBerry Bold 2 is expected to make its appearance on both T-Mobile and AT&T's airwaves, and an official announcement on the handset's launch is to be made on October 21. No details on when the phone will become available for purchase on the market have emerged, nor info on its possible price tag, yet earlier rumors suggested that mid-November could be the lucky window for enthusiasts.

As for the Storm 2, a touchscreen device that should bring to the market a great deal of improvements when compared to the original Storm, it might become available for purchase on Verizon Wireless as soon as mid-October, sporting the BlackBerry OS 5.0 on board when available. A recent flyer for Verizon shows that the new version of the BB OS will be running on the device and also delivers a few details on what users should expect from it.

The upcoming BlackBerry OS 5.0 should indeed come with great new features, and some of BlackBerry owners out there might have already encountered it through the leaked OSes that made it into the wild lately and not only. One of the nicest features they will benefit from comes in the form of BlackBerry Messenger 5.0, which RIM has just made available for the BlackBerry smartphone users out there.

Hopefully, both BlackBerry Storm 2 (9550) and Bold 2 (aka 9700 or Onyx) will soon make their appearance on the market, for it has been quite a while now since they first surfaced in the news, and we're sure that there are a great deal of enthusiasts already eagerly waiting for them to become available. In the meantime, they might also want to take a look at the white BlackBerry Bold 9000 that AT&T is reportedly preparing for launch on October 18 (priced at $199.99).
