Bohemia Interactive Focuses on FADE to Fight Piracy

Piracy is always a big problem when it comes to PC gaming but the Czech developers working at Bohemia Interactive say that they have been well served by their FADE system and that they will be focusing on it in the future.

FADE, which has been in use since the launch of Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, about 10 years ago, does not actually stop pirates from playing the game but it steadily degrades the performance and the look of the game as time goes by.

This means that pirates are able to get a taste, sort of like a demo, of the game they are playing but cannot complete the experience.

Take On Helicopters also uses the system and will also get a full fledged demo which shows how the game plays without FADE.

A statement from Bohemia Interactive says, “One of the aspects of developing any game in this modern age is how to protect it who, for whatever reason, feel that their right is to not pay for something despite all the thousands of hours that have gone into its development.”
