Experts from MX Lab have analyzed yet another cybercriminal operation targeted at French users. The company warns that the cybercrooks are sending out bogus notifications purporting to come from UBS AG, the global financial services organization.

The emails inform recipients that they have a negative balance of 1,500 EUR ($1,956) on their bank accounts.

The subject lines included in the phony notifications look something like this: - Attention – débit sur votre compte bancaire UBS AG d’un montant de 1500 €; - Notification de la banque UBS AG : préparation du débit en cours; - Le débit d’un montant de 1500 € sur votre compte bancaire UBS AG sera effectué dans 24 heures; - Votre compte bancaire UBS AG sera débité de 1500 €.

The links from the emails point to various compromised websites that host a file called inf.html. This file is designed to redirect users to a malicious website.

Users are advised to carefully check the legitimacy of an email before clicking on the links or the attachments contained in it.
