On Monday, October 17, the Boeing Company proudly introduced its newest airplane, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, at the 2011 Seoul Air Show, in South Korea. This was a momentous occasion for the corporation, which has been working on this innovative design for many years.

According to specification sheets released by Boeing, the 787 is the most fuel-efficient airplane the company ever built, and also the first mid-size wide-body aircraft in the world to be made mostly out of composite materials.

This ensures a very low weight, as well as less drag. Its construction was focused on low fuel consumption, and analysts agree that the end result passed the test. When compared to other aircraft in its class, such as the Boeing 767, the new airplane consumes 20 percent less fuel.

Such a level of saving is bound to make numerous carriers interested in the 787. Reducing fuel costs by one fifth means saving tens of millions of dollars per year. Within half a decade, it may be possible for a large carrier to save enough money to buy a new plane, so the investment is worth it.
