14 DAY TRIAL // In January 2014, Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown’s daughter announced that she and Nick Gordon, a boy Whitney had taken in and raised as her own without ever filing the papers for adoption, had gotten married in secret. She also told the media that a wedding ceremony was forthcoming and that it would be huge.
That never happened, but she never stopped referring to Nick, whom the media had dubbed her “adoptive brother” because they’d been raised as siblings and the Houston family was vocally against the relationship, as her “husband.”
Turns out they were never really married.
Bobbi Kristina’s near-drowning
Last weekend, Bobbi Kristina was found unresponsive face-down in the bathtub in the Roswell, Georgia home she shared with Nick. It was Nick and a male friend who called 911 to report a “drowning” and who performed CPR on her until paramedics arrived on the scene and were finally able to revive her.
She was put in a medically induced coma when she arrived at the hospital, and rumor has it that she’s showing diminished brain activity after having been deprived of oxygen for too long, and that she might never recover.
Police found drugs hidden in the house, and they believe that she OD’ed in the bathtub, not drowned by accident, sources close to the investigation have revealed under the condition of anonymity.
Even more strangely, the friend who was with Nick has a track record of drug abuse and drug-related arrests, having once been accused of drugging his girlfriend just so she wouldn’t leave him. Speculation has it that he and Nick were in the house when Bobbi Kristina did the drugs and OD’ed, and might have tried to cover it up by staging the near-drowning.
That last theory hasn’t been confirmed by the police yet, because the investigation is underway. It would, however, explain why Bobby Brown is trying to push Nick away and preparing for the worst: upon her mother’s death, Bobbi Kristina inherited the bulk of her estate, which would pass on to Nick in case something happened to her, if they were married.
They never married legally, says attorney
However, whatever reason they had for calling themselves husband and wife, it wasn’t legally binding, Brown’s attorney says in a statement to People Magazine.
“Bobbi Kristina is not and has never been married to Nick Gordon,” the lawyer says, adding that his office is conducting a separate investigation from the police, to determine what happened at the house before she was found face-down in the water.
The Houston family released a statement the other day to say that the 21-year-old was “fighting for her life,” and to ask for privacy and prayers for her. They would not discuss Nick Gordon or Bobby Brown, but it is a well-known fact that they can’t stand either: Nick because they deem the relationship nearly incestuous, and Bobby because they still blame him for Whitney’s drugs problems that eventually killed her 3 years ago.
