Some of the users who migrate to Windows 8.1 are seeing the same blurry fonts

One of the problems with the latest version of Windows and Internet Explorer is causing the fonts to be a little bit blurry, clearly affecting the overall experience with the software apps and sometime making them completely unusable.

Posts on Microsoft’s Community forums indicate that users are still struggling to deal with blurry fonts in Windows 8.1, even though Microsoft was expected to address this issue in the update.

The provided fix does not seem to work, so Redmond clearly needs to spend more time trying to optimize the way the Windows 8.1 fonts look like on desktops and tablets.

Here’s what one of the affected users is reporting:

“The text is either blurry on my Surface Pro or on my monitor. If I boot while the monitor is plugged in, then the Surface Pro text is blurry. If I boot without the monitor plugged in, the Surface Pro text is crisp. When I plug in the monitor, the text on the monitor is blurry and the task bar isn't sized correctly (i.e., the text for the time/date is oversized and the icons are tiny).”

A Microsoft support engineer has provided a rather simple workaround that doesn’t seem to make any difference.

“Open the settings charm (Win + I), select ‘Change PC Settings,’ select ‘PC & Devices,’ then ‘Display,’ scroll down to ‘More Options’ section and select ‘Smaller’ from the dropdown to render text and other app content at 100%,” he said.

Unfortunately for users who make the move to the latest Microsoft software apps, Internet Explorer 11 is also affected by a similar blurry font issue, again with no workaround available.

As you can see, none of Microsoft’s solution seems to correct this problem, so in case you’ve found one that really works, make sure you share it with other readers using the comment box after the jump.
