Bluefire announced the upcoming release of the Bluefire Mobile Security VPN version 2.7. The updated version, to be released on March 12, will offer several enhancements such as support for more mobile devices, support for more authentication methods, enhanced user experience and improved support for large-scale deployments.

The new version expands the number of compatible platforms, adding support for new Windows Mobile 5.0 devices, such as Cingular Blackjack, Cingular 3125, T-Mobile Dash, Motorola Q Pro, and Palm Treo 750. Bluefire's VPN expands its security features by offering support for additional forms of authentication, including support for X.509 certificates and RSA SecurID software token integration. The new version also offers an improved user experience, adding new features such as the automatic configuration of perfect forward secrecy (PFS) for use with all Cisco gateways, and the possibility of installing VPN software to storage cards or device memory. For large-scale deployments, Bluefire's VPN now allows administrators to import and export connection profiles with the group password in an encrypted format, and supports Proxy Settings for the VPN network.

"Bluefire has had numerous requests from customers to add these features, including support for X.509 certificates. Version 2.7 is an indication that Bluefire continues to lead the industry with products that meet the needs of existing and potential customers," said Mark Komisky, CEO of Bluefire. "With the use of mobile and wireless devices rapidly growing, it is important that the mobile security industry keep up with the trends. Users should be confident that data-in-transit is protected anytime, anywhere, which is something Bluefire's VPN will provide."

The Bluefire Mobile Security VPN provides an IPsec compliant secure connection for data-in-transit, and is certified as RSA SecurID Ready with two-factor authentication technology from RSA, the Security Division of EMC, through the RSA Secured Partner Program. Bluefire's VPN is compliant with Federal Information Processing Standards 140-2 (FIPS 140-2), and operates seamlessly across Wi-Fi, LAN, and cellular networks with no user intervention required.
