BlueTree Wireless Data Inc., a leader in the development and manufacturing of rugged wireless modems, announced at the CTIA Wireless 2009 show held in Las Vegas, Nevada, the release of its 6400 Series lineup of rugged cellular modems that are built on the 2G EDGE wireless technology. In addition to the full range of 3G rugged modems, such as GSM HSPA and CDMA Rev A cellular ones, the company also announced three new GPRS EDGE modems aimed at fixed M2M applications like Telemetry and SCADA.

The new GPRS EDGE modems BlueTree unveiled at CTIA include the BT – 6401 Industrial Modem for Telemetry/SCADA applications that can be used for oil/gas and electric utility industries, as well as for waste/water management ones, the BT – 6401EB Industrial Modem for Telemetry/SCADA applications that needs integrated Power over Ethernet (PoE) so that it could offer easy installation in places where there are no power outlets available otherwise it is impractical, as well as the BT – 6421 Industrial Switch packed with an integrated 5 Ethernet port layout, which is meant for applications that would need multiple Ethernet port connectivity.

“We continue to be committed to the fixed data wireless application markets,” said Michael Ramsay, president of BlueTree Wireless Data. “We have customers in the Machine-to-Machine space who require low cost yet feature rich industrial grade cellular modems with intermediate speed levels. This is the kind of flexibility our customers expect from us and that is what we are delivering. With EDGE we now have what we believe is the widest selection of rugged cellular modem solutions available and an equally impressive selection of technologies available in HSPA and CDMA Rev A products.”

The new 6400-series modems from BlueTree come with support for EDGE protocol and include automatic fallback to GPRS. At the same time, they come with standard features such as metal enclosures, USB, Serial and Ethernet Ports, Class 1 Division 2 certification, built-in routing functionality, IPSec VPN and several mounting options (including DIN Rail), as well as IP Pass-Thru.
