Last week, Drake revealed the official artwork for his next album, “Nothing Was the Same,” which drops on September 24 and people immediately noticed that the kid on the cover resembled Beyonce and Jay Z’s daughter Blue Ivy.

As close a resemblance as you think you see, you’re wrong, the rapper tells MTV backstage at the Video Music Awards 2013, as the video below will confirm.

The photo is actually a portrait of Drake as a kid and is part of a bigger painting by artist Kadir Nelson, he says.

“When you go to the store and see it, you'll see the full painting. When it's positioned on the shelf, whatever store you go to, if they do it as I've asked [laughs], you'll see the fact that it's a child version of myself staring at myself now,” Drake says.

“Sometimes when I try and think back on this journey, it's so hard to pinpoint all of these moments and it gets foggy. Even on past albums when I've been trying to tell this story, I've got there, but maybe not got there all the way,” he continues.

“Nothing Was the Same” was his attempt at revisiting some of his own experiences.
