Speculations surrounding Blu-ray equipped Macs have began circulating and Apple has failed either to confirm or to deny the rumors. Apple Computer is currently in negotiations with Sony to bring
Blu-ray and HD-DVD next-generation high definition DVD formats to Mac. While actual details are scarce to say the least, unofficial sources presented February 2007 as a possible date when Apple will start receiving the drives from Sony.
Such a move from Apple is directed at Microsoft, as the Redmond Company will deliver native support for HD DVD with Windows Vista capable PCs. The table for such a collaboration was set since March 10, 2005 when Apple became a member of the Blu-ray Disc Association board.
Blu-ray technology is expected to be introduced in future Mac Pros machines. But as to this date it is yet unknown if the Blu-ray will be supported by Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or by Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. Additionally, there are other rumors according to which Apple will unveil an update for Mac pro by the end of 2007. In this context, another update for the Mac Pro in February 2007 looks highly unlikely.
