Says Nielsen survey

It seems that the PlayStation 3 from Sony is most attractive to consumers not because it offers access to such videogame experiences like God of War 3, Little Big Planet or Heavy Rain but because it comes complete with a competent Blu-ray player. A recent study from The Nielsen Company shows that the recently launched ad campaign with the tagline “It Only Does Everything” is pretty effective, managing to show off the abilities of the gadget and make more customers consider buying it.

A post on the official Nielsen Wire Blog commented on the study, “Despite the fact that buying a specific game does not rank high on the list of reasons for acquiring a PS3, GOW III was the most popular game among those who mentioned that a particular title is a top five motivator of their console purchase. Across a list of 20 PS3 titles, including Heavy Rain, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Little Big Planet, and Gran Turismo 5, one-third (33 percent) of gamers indicate GOW III as their first choice.”

The survey is based on data gathered by Nielsen during the three-week period, which coincided with the launch of PS3 exclusive God of War 3 and 700 gamers with ages ranging from 7 to 54 years were questioned by the company.

Neither of them had a PlayStation 3 and 65 percent of them said that the Blu-ray player was the main reason they would like to get one. The second most popular reason was the price drop linked with the new Slim version of the platform and the third was a desire to upgrade from the PS2, marked by 62% of those who answered.

Further reasons to want a PS3 include: the impressive games library, the good connectivity options and other online abilities of the Sony device.
