No matter the direction of the upcoming game, it will still be challenging and rewarding

From Software's upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive action role-playing title, Bloodborne, has gotten a lot of people excited, especially fans of the Souls series.

The Japanese video game developer makes difficult games that reward perseverance and for some mysterious reason bestow a great sense of accomplishment upon those who manage to best their challenges.

Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director of Demon's Souls, the first in the series, is also heading the development of Bloodborne, and he has assured the many fans of From Software's games that the new one is being created with the same core values in mind.

Miyazaki says that today's From Software is very different from when he made Demon's Souls, with many new members, given the scope of their projects and the fact that there are much more resources to work with now.

Having become a legitimate triple-A studio and having an exclusivity deal with Sony might make some people wonder whether the upcoming title won't drop some of its hallmark difficulty in order to appeal to a larger audience, the bane of hardcore gamers worldwide.

"Well, it is difficult to say. As for Bloodborne, the development scale is now big in its own way, but on the other hand we still have habits that are strongly with us. Rather than it being conscious, it is something that feels natural, and at the same time, there are cases where the notion of a little shifting the axis is a result," Miyazaki has replied to Japanese magazine 4Gamer, when asked if the studio's mindset has altered regarding Bloodborne's development.

He has assured fans that it's very important to them that the game captures the defining essence of the other titles and that their work still feels "From-like," sporting all the distinctive features that have earned the studio its fame.

"I think that there are many aspects to it, in the sense of something being something special. Are we even sure of what actually defines what special is? I don't think it can be pin pointed. As to what I think special means, I hope special is the type of company we can be," Miyazaki shares.

Retaining the particularities of the Dark Souls series is one of the team's priorities, no matter where Bloodborne's development cycle takes them.

"First of all we have a new hardware, and with that a new title. I think this game will become very challenging for us as we move forward."

"But on the other hand, what's at the base, for instance, is still an attempt to create a game that you as well as people who like games will enjoy, and an attempt to let you play a game that will provide a sense of accomplishment and a challenge. That's what we have done so far, and has not changed at all," Miyazaki explains.
