Gamers will have to be fast and aggressive to succeed

The development teams at From Software and the SCE Japan Studio and publisher Sony are taking advantage of Gamescom 2014 to deliver plenty of more information about the core combat system of Bloodborne, and a new video that allows gamers to get more details about the gameplay mechanics has been released.

The team states that it aims to make the exploration mechanics of the title very interesting and engaging, with players able to discover a creepy and gothic world.

The official blog states that Bloodborne will include "amazing detail through the beautiful yet somber architecture; attention to detail in the environment; gorgeous lighting from the light of the moon, lanterns and fires burning in the street; and a trusty torch to light your way through dark and dangerous spaces."

The feeling of overcoming tough odds during combat is one of the core elements of the experience, but the studio is increasing both the variety of the combat and is making it faster in order to increase the level of excitement and tension that gamers will need to deal with.

The absence of the shield is also important and the enemies that gamers encounter are also faster and more aggressive.

From Software and SCE Japan add, "There are situations where if you sit back and wait for an opening, you’ll get overwhelmed. At times, you have to be on the offensive. But this is not a hack-and-slash game. Rest assured, Bloodborne is still an action RPG at its core, and combat is still very much about strategy and tactics."

A new Regain System actually rewards those gamers who are decisive and attack, as it gives them health back after they take damage as long as they use a bladed weapon and land a strike in a narrow time window.

The various weapons that gamers can use in Bloodborne are also changing combat, because the shotgun and the blunderbuss can be used to control crowds of enemies and deliver big amounts of damage at short range.

But the team working on the title says that players will still have to rely on their blades in order to finish off monsters in a variety of situations.

The saw cleaver, which was already shown during E3, has a short form, which is perfect for close range and fast attacks, and a long one, which can be used to deliver more powerful strikes after a longer preparation period.

Bloodborne will arrive on the PlayStation 4 in 2015.
