From Software waited for the PS4 to make the new RPG

Bloodborne developer From Software has talked a bit about the ambitious role-playing game and how its world comes to life on the PS4, and said that its combat won't be affected all that much by the all-new gun that can be wielded by players.

Bloodborne is the next big project created by Japanese studio From Software, which has already made a lasting impact on the RPG scene with challenging experiences like Demon's Souls or Dark Souls.

The new title is made in partnership with Sony's Japan studio, and as a result, it's going to arrive exclusively for the PS4 platform in early February of next year.

Bloodborne is possible only on the PS4

From Software's Masaaki Yamagiwa reveals that the PS4 exclusivity is great, as the powerful console can ensure Bloodborne has a rich world filled with special elements and visual effects. According to him, the studio has wanted to make a title set in the Victorian era for some time, but due to the underpowered platforms like the PS3 or Xbox 360, the resulting world's quality wasn't that great.

"We always wanted to make a game set in the Victorian era, but to make it look good — with all the clothing and the architecture and things – required a console more powerful than the ones that were around," he tells PSLS. "The arrival of the PS4 finally gave us that. Bloodborne isn’t a game that could have been cross generation, it was only possible on PS4."

The gun won't break the game's combat

Unlike Demon's Souls or Dark Souls, which both had a medieval fantasy setting in which players were able to wield swords or use magic attacks, Bloodborne also gives players access to a gun. Veteran fans shouldn't worry, however, as the weapon won't break the combat. Yamagiwa emphasizes that From Software took great care when designing and implementing the gun, so that it won't feel extremely powerful.

"It was actually a very difficult decision to introduce a gun, but it came from the desire to change up the gameplay and also to match this 19th-century setting. Fortunately, most guns back then weren’t as accurate and didn’t have as long range as today’s, so we could believable add one without breaking the combat," he says

"We’ve carefully considered how the gun can be used without being able to rely on it. We had a lot of feedback from our American counterparts about what works and what doesn’t. We asked especially about that time period."

Bloodborne is set to debut in early February, exclusively for the PS4 platform.
