By the looks of it the blood elves either visited the gym a couple of times, either they had some plastic surgery. The gym and steroids versions seem more real as they seem bigger and more masculine.
In a more serious note, Blizzard decided to alter the look of the male blood elves due to complaints on their forums, according to which the elves were too girly. Yeah, I bet that the ones who complained all have Stallone and Schwarzenegger bodies! Anyway, Blizzard decided that blood elves needed more muscular mass because they are members of the Horde and they need to give out the impression of strength in order to have a more menacing presence.
The Blood Elves race is a remnant of the High Elves who survived the destruction of QuelThalas by The Scourge. They named themselves Blood Elves or Sin'Dorei in the memory of their slaughterer brethren. The leader of the Blood Elves is Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider.
