SouthPeak has announced that it is taking over publishing duties for Blood Bowl in North America and that it plans to launch a retail version of the game for the PC, the Xbox 360 home gaming console from Microsoft and the PlayStation Portable handheld from Sony.
The first two platforms will be getting the game at some point during January 2010, while the portable version will appear during spring. It's not clear whether the PSP version of
Blood Bowl will only come via UMD or whether it will also be delivered for the Go variant of the console.
Aubrey Norris, who is the manager of Human-Orc relations at SouthPeak, has said that “We’re thrilled to have a part in bringing a proper retail version of Blood Bowl to North American gamers on Windows PC, Xbox 360 and PSP. It’s never easy to get all these races to agree on something – but if there’s one thing they love, it’s good competition with a lot of bloodshed!”
Blood Bowl was developed by French studio
Cyanide, which is also known for the Pro Cycling Manager series, and released during 2009 in Europe and other territories. It's a very accurate translation of the rules used by the board game of the same name created by Games Workshop. The experience is largely based on American football rules coupled with the races that appear in the Warhammer fantasy universe, like Dark Elves, Chaos and Dwarves.
The game is turn based and allows any player to create a team from scratch, using a certain amount of cash and sticking to one race. As they play matches against better and better teams, certain players can be upgraded to be more capable on the field, new plays can be developed and dirty tricks can be used to be the best team in the Blood Bowl universe.
