Doesn't think blogs have what it takes any longer, it seems

Google has been very bullish over its "social layer" Google+. It's constantly promoting it, building it into its other products and generally making sure that anyone who uses any Google product stumbles upon, if is not outright forced to use, it.

Blogger has been no stranger to this, the site has gotten quite a few Google+ embellishments, including the ability to swap the Blogger profile with a Google+ one.

Still, it hasn't been that bad and Blogger has actually been seeing some work done for the first time in many years, with the new dynamic views, the new dashboard and so on.

It was almost like Google actually cared about Blogger once again, if only a little. But a new, seemingly minor move, indicates that Google cares about Blogger about as much as it always had, which is little to none at all.

Five years ago Blogger introduced the Blogger in Draft blog, designed to keep people informed on the latest experimental features that were ready for testing, months before being rolled out to all users.

But now Google doesn't believe a plain blog is enough to convey what it needs to users or to keep the audience engaged. No, blogs no longer cut it, it's all about the "social web" now. Therefore, it's replacing the Blogger in Draft blog with the Blogger Google+ page.

"For the past five years, we’ve introduced new updates and options [on the Blogger In Draft blog], often before we told the rest of the world on our official blog, Buzz," Blogger explained.

"With the recent launch of our Google+ page, we have another great way to keep you updated on new features, both for everyone and those of you who love seeing things early. To simplify the many places you can get updates, we will be retiring the Blogger in Draft blog, with this being the final post," it said.
