Blogger may be the biggest blogging platform in the world, but it's certainly not the trendiest. While plenty of people still use it and there has been a steady stream of updates and new features, it is in dire need of a revamp and, luckily, that's exactly what's coming, some time this year.

Blogger is now previewing some of the big changes coming to the site soon, the Dasboard is going to get fully redesigned, there's a new post editor and a new content discovery feature.

"We’re kicking things off at SXSW by giving folks a sneak peek at our next-generation user interface. The new design is not only cleaner and more modern, but it also uses Google Web Toolkit, delivering the latest in web technology," Chang Kim, Product Manager at Blogger, announced.

"We’ll also be showcasing our new content discovery feature that lets you uncover interesting and related content based on the topics of the blog you’re currently reading," he added.

None of the features are live yet and Google is not providing a launch date. But, from the looks of it, Blogger users have plenty to be thrilled about.

The Blogger post editor is getting a thorough revamp. The new editor offers a better built-in preview of the post and also utilizes space more wisely. The controls are moved to the top and the editor itself now takes up the bulk of the page.

It's very similar to the Docs editors, but comes with the tools and features that make sense for blogs. The new editor is just part of the completely revamped Dashboard.

While the sections and features are mostly the same, the layout is a lot lighter. Considering that Google has been constantly adding new features, a clean up was needed. The different sections are now pushed to the left, rather than on top, and are better grouped.

Finally, Google is offering a sneak peak at a content discovery tool which is supposed to help users find content related to whatever they are reading. Apparently, more new features are in the works and Google plans to reveal them at the appropriate time.
