Blogger has kept its promise and has unveiled the first step of the announced revamp. Google hasn't paid that much attention to Blogger in recent years, but it's finally getting the some love. Blogger is previewing five new blog templates full of AJAX, HTML5 and CSS3 goodness to put the likes of WordPress, Tumblr and company to shame. The new templates are quite impressive, both technically but most of all visually. They look and feel great, the animations and smart layouts make the blogs much more enjoyable to browse through.
"Today we’re previewing five new dynamic templates in Blogger that you’ll soon be able to customize and use for your blog. These new views use the latest in web technology, including AJAX, HTML5 and CSS3, to deliver a host of benefits to you and your readers," Antin Harasymiv, a Software Engineer at Blogger,
announced.
"Infinite scrolling: read more posts without having to reload or click to a second page; New layouts: different views suited to different types of blogs; Speed: download images as you view them, not all at once in advance; Interactivity: there are now more ways to experience and engage with blog content," lists some of the major benefits of the new themes.
A couple of weeks ago, Blogger announced that some
major changes are coming and that the interface is going to get an overhaul, both the dashboard and backend, as well as the templates.
Blogger provided a preview of what's to come, but now that you can see the new themes in action they're much more impressive. There are five templates to choose from each suited for a certain type of blog.
Photo-heavy blogs are going to love the Flipcard, Snapshot or the Mosaic templates. Those looking for a more traditional look can try the Sidebar template and, finally, there's the Timeslide template which works best for magazine type blogs.
You can check out how your Blogger blog is going to look like with any of the templates by adding "/view" after the regular URL. This
only works if you have the 'full' RSS/Atom view enabled and, of course, if you haven't disabled "Dynamic views."
