Blocks might ring a bell in your consciousness, because it’s the name of an ambitious project.

Basically, the team behind Blocks wants to do what Google is doing with Project Ara for smartphones. Blocks, on the other hand, is targeting modular smartwatches, which they see as the future of wearables.

Blocks thinks you should be able to create your smartwatch anyway you like starting from opting for what sort of screen you have onboard, strap material and all the way to sensor specifics.

Blocks Camera wants to be your modular digital companion

But what about action cameras? It can be done. Behold the Blocks Camera, which is a multifunctional snapper capable of shooting 3D and in 360 degree thanks to its atypical design.

From afar, you might even end up mistaking it for a little flying saucer, but we assure the Blocks Camera is not that.

According to the camera’s Kickstarter project, Blocks has been designed to feed your customization needs, so users will be able to attach their favorite blocks to the main body.

Due to the modular nature of the camera, Blocks can be configured to adapt to different activities, including Action Mode, 360-degree Mode and 3D mode.

For the time being, users will be able to attach optional 3D Extension Blocks (which help record video in real 3D) and LCD Block, which is a portable display that can be attached to any ports of the Blocks Camera main body, so you can see what you've shot so far.

The Blocks camera has built-in Wi-Fi and one can use the Blocks Mobile Application to control the camera remotely by virtue of smartphone or tablet.

More than that, Blocks can be used to track your activity because it is bundled with a built-in GPS receiver. So info about location, speed or performance can be easily accessed, plus you get a visual log of your shooting trips via the mobile app.

Choose between the 2K and 4K Blocks Camera version

There are two versions of the camera, one that can shoot video up to 2K, while the more advanced one can do so in 4K. As for photo capturing, the base model can snap them at 10MP (up to 5fps), while the better of the two takes 12MP images (up to 10fps).

Blocks Camera is currently a Kickstarter project seeking funds, so if you like the look and idea behind this little gizmo, go ahead and make a pledge.

For $350 / €300 you will receive a Blocks Camera, but if you want the 3D extension and remote control, you’ll have to pay an additional $50 / €40.
