Titan had a huge world, three factions, and dual identities

After we've heard that Blizzard is officially canceling the Titan massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) project after many years of development, a set of leaked details about the mysterious title has appeared, confirming the studio's ideas about its gameplay, concept, and more.

Titan entered development around 2007 or so, well after Blizzard realized the success of its World of Warcraft MMORPG, and was supposed to further innovate by having an all-new premise and concept, as opposed to WoW, which used the old Warcraft universe.

Unfortunately, after many years of development, the game apparently wasn't fun and Blizzard decided to cancel the whole project, as confirmed earlier this week by its senior executives.

Titan gets a lot of leaked details

However, thanks to a new report from Kotaku, which cites various sources that have worked on the project or saw Titan in action, plenty of details are available.

First and foremost, Titan saw players become citizens of an Earth that survived an alien attack and became the scene for a conflict between three different factions.

As opposed to World of Warcraft's Azeroth, Titan had the whole planet as a potential realm, with the game being set to ship with the West coast of the United States, Europe, or Australia, and then receive more regions in subsequent expansions or DLC packs.

The game proposed a dual identity for players

Titan tasked players with assuming a double role, that of a regular employee by day and that of an epic warrior by night. Players were able to assume various jobs, from office workers to mechanics, butchers, but by night, they were able to take on different combat classes like Reaper, Jumper, Titan, Ranger, or Juggernaut, each with its own special abilities, items, and more.

Jumper characters, for example, were agile scouts that could employ big leaps into and out of combat. Rangers, on the other hand, acted as snipers and could employ a cloak to turn themselves invisible for a short period of time.

Titan was similar to Team Fortress 2 and had great AI

According to the same report, Titan had a stylized aesthetic, similar to that of Team Fortress 2 or Pixar's The Incredibles. Players could switch from first and third-person view, while the globe was divided into the real one and the shadow world.

The game had a complex artificial intelligence system, so that players could interact with NPC allies and even forge relationships or families with them.

Overall, Titan looked quite promising, but according to the report, the development process was constantly shifting from one direction to another, so it never really went anywhere consistent. Due to the cancelation, it's unlikely that the game will ever see the light of day.
