We already know that Blizzard is working on a new MMO project that is codenamed Titan, but the company has so far refused to offer any concrete details linked to it, probably for fear that it might affect the popularity of its current blockbuster World of Warcraft.

And it seems that Blizzard is working hard to make sure that the Titan game will not compete directly with World of Warcraft and will not cannibalize its audience.

Paul Sams, who is the chief operation officer at Blizzard, has said that, “We believe that it will be more complementary than competitive.”

He added, “And while people do have a limited amount of free time that they can devote to these types of games, we do think that people will want to check out the new and the old. We think the new one is very compelling and is going to capture a lot of hearts and minds and will be very successful for us.”

It's not clear how far Blizzard can go from the World of Warcraft model without stepping into the newly emerging market of free-to-play transaction-based multiplayer games, where competition is already fierce.

Titan was initially revealed in a clutch of internal Blizzard documents leaked out of its Chinese subsidiary and since then the company has acknowledged the existence of the game while telling its fans that it is still in the early stages of development.

Blizzard is understandable working on creating more content for World of Warcraft, which at the moment has more than 12 million subscribers, hoping to match and even exceed the sales numbers posted by last year's Cataclysm.

The company does not comment on launch dates, but the leaked Chinese documents suggest that a new expansion, revamping more of the game world, might arrive in late 2011 or in early 2012.
