The leader of World of Warcraft developer Blizzard has taken the rather extraordinary step of apologizing for a video that was shown at the Blizzcon event last week, which included a number of censored attacks against homosexuals and Alliance players.

Mike Morhaime, who is the president of Blizzard, has sent a letter to GayGamer, which reads: “I have read your feedback and comments about this year’s BlizzCon, and I have also read the feedback to the apology from Level 90 Elite Tauren Chieftain. I’d like to respond to some of your feedback here.”

He added, “As president of Blizzard, I take full responsibility for everything that occurs at BlizzCon.”

Morhaime goes on to talk about how the use of the offending video was wrong, even with the censured bits, and he went on to apologize for hurting any fans again before ending the letter.

Before the well known and loved Level 90 Elite Tauren Chieftain played the event Cannibal Corpse was featured and a video starring the frontman, George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher, has shown, with a bleeped out sequences part of it.

Users later discovered an uncensored online version which contained some pretty strong language and prompted a reaction from the World of Warcraft player base on the official forums.

This prompted an apology from the band Level 90 Elite Tauren Chieftain but it seems that this was not enough and the president of Blizzard had to step in.

Some players have suggested that the video is part of a bigger problem linked to the popular MMO, where the fact that most of the development team plays Horde characters means that there's an open bias against the Alliance.

Blizzard has just announced a new expansion for its MMO, called Mists of Pandaria, which will introduce a new race, the monk class and will push the level cap to 90.
