The developer posted some mysterious sound effects files on Twitter, most likely something to do with Legacy of the Void

BlizzCon, Blizzard Entertainment's annual celebration of everything they've ever made, is right around the corner, and it seems that the developer is planning on making a surprise announcement related to StarCraft 2.

Blizzard usually makes its big announcements at the convention, and this year will most likely not break the pattern. Aside from the rumors about Eye of Azshara, the alleged expansion for World of Warcraft, we're also expecting something Hearthstone-related to drop at the end of the week.

Blizzard has sent various teasers featuring artificial life forms of goblin or gnomish engineering design, likely hinting at the fact that the upcoming expansion, said to add over 100 new cards to the popular collectible card game, features a heavy mechanical theme, or that the game is ready for launch on Android tablets.

Warlords of Draenor, the fifth expansion for World of Warcraft, the most highly regarded massively multiplayer online role-playing game in the world, is due out on November 13, celebrating the franchise's tenth anniversary, and Blizzard looks forward to at least another ten years of adventuring through Azeroth.

The list of pre-BlizzCon teasers has now grown to incorporate StarCraft 2, Blizzard's hugely popular real-time strategy game, with a series of mysterious sound files being posted on the game's official Twitter account.

More mysterious teasers

Blizzard started posting some eerie sound effects, accompanied by the words "see" and "you," to be presumably followed by "soon" ahead of BlizzCon.

The first of the posts, dating from last week, features a distinct Zerg unit battle cry, immediately followed by something that resembles a mortar shell or missile being fired, flying through the air and then finding a target.

The second audio clip was posted earlier today, containing the word "you" and some indistinct mechanical sound that makes one thing of a bipedal mech out for a stroll.

Luck has it that the Terran Warhound unit was cut from Heart of the Swarm, StarCraft 2's first expansion, so we might get a chance to see it in action in the highly anticipated next add-on, Legacy of the Void.

Speaking of which, this is no doubt what everyone is hoping that the teases are about. Blizzard is likely getting ready to announce the next installment in the StarCraft 2 saga.

Merely revealing three new units, one for each race, would be a slightly anticlimactic resolution for the teasing campaign. In any case, we'll know at the end of the week, and in the meantime, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed.
