Not a recipe for success

The movie industry in Hollywood isn't doing so good these days, as more and more new movies are based on IPs (Intellectual Properties) developed by other branches of the entertainment industry. A new trend has been the one of movies based on videogames, which guarantee that fans will come to see them, just because they are inspired from their favorite titles.

We've seen quite a lot of new movies based on videogames, like the recent Max Payne or the Tomb Raider series, and even more are currently in production, reaching various stages of the creation cycle. Projects based on BioShock, Army of Two or other games are all in the making in Hollywood.

But without a doubt, one of the most expected ones is the World of Warcraft-based movie, which will be developed by Legendary Pictures, in collaboration with the studio behind the very popular game, Blizzard. We've already heard Frank Pearce, vice president of product development for Blizzard, talk about this movie, saying that it was still in the first stages of creation, but that it would be very good.

He now comes to talk about the game-based movies in general, saying that their history isn't very good, though he hopes that this WoW title will change that. "There’s been some [movies] that have been decent, and there’s been some that have been disappointing. It’s just a question of how much energy, time, blood, sweat and tears are invested in the movie. Anything we take on, whether it’s live-action or CG, pocketbook novels or trading card games, whatever it is, it’s really important that the overall experience is a high level of quality in line with what we do with our games."

It looks like Pearce really wants to assure fans that Blizzard will have an important part in the making of this movie, and that it will ensure that the end result is without a flaw. The games produced by the company were great, setting new benchmarks for other titles, and it seems like the movie will also be very good. Let's hope that the company keeps its promises.
