Rumors get dismissed, not announcements. What's going on here?

Just a few days ago, the Internet blew up with the supposed announcement of StarCraft 2 from Blizzard. TeamLiquid translated the original Korean news article on Blizzard's World Wide Invitational (in short WWI) in Seoul, specifically saying that StarCraft 2 was in the works. Not only that, but a new race has been added and existing units' characteristics would see many changes.

More than that, the translation said that a 3D StarCraft 2 was being developed, which led people into thinking that Blizzard was probably making another MMORPG. But all your dreams are soon to be shattered. As it turns out, someone made a big error. Blizzard's clarifying the whole issue, dismissing any StarCraft 2 possibility. Blizzard's response to the SC2 rumor posted on 3D Gamers says:

"We do intend to announce a new product at the Worldwide Invitational next month in Korea, and we appreciate the enthusiasm and interest in getting an advance look at what that will be, but players will have to wait until May 19th to find out more. Also, we have a very strong connection with the characters and settings of StarCraft, and we do plan to revisit that universe at some point in the future, but we don't have anything new to announce in that regard at present."

"...strong connection with the characters and settings of StarCraft", yet we're not talking StarCraft 2 here... Great! Could they be more ambiguous? So then, if it's not SC2 that they're announcing at the World Wide Invitational, then what is it? Would you be surprised to see Blizzard announcing SC2 for a 19 May release, just because they want to announce it themselves officially? I wouldn't.
