Video game developer Blizzard announces that Diablo 3 will remain an always online game and that there are no plans to allow players to enjoy it without having an Internet connection.

The studio has recently announced that it is shutting down the Auction House, which was the initial reason of the always online nature of the game, on March 18 of 2014.

A representative of the company tells Rock, Paper, Shotgun that, “While the always-online requirement made the auction house possible, the auction house was never the driving factor in our decision to make the PC version of Diablo III require an Internet connection.”

Blizzard says that Battle.net will still offer gamers benefits like character saves, multiplayer and cheat prevention.

Diablo 3 will get the Reaper of Souls expansion at some point next year, with gamers set to get access to a new class, the Crusader, a new town and more enemies to battle for interesting loot drops.
