Josh Mosqueira, the game director working on Diablo 3, says that the introduction of the Auction House feature has limited the number of compromised accounts because it gave players a secure way of trading their items.
He tells PCGamesN during Gamescom that “The auction house is a really complicated issue.”
He adds, “So the primary of the auction house is definitely making sure that players can trade without worrying that [their accounts] will get compromised.”
Many Diablo 3 players have complained that the Auction House served as a distraction and made powerful items less valuable.
One of the original designers of the game, Jay Wilson, also says that he would remove the feature if he could.
Diablo 3 is getting a new expansion called Reaper of Souls, which will introduce a new class, the Crusader, and a new town, while challenging players to battle the angel of death himself.
